There are a myriad of benefits to rewilding, from flood protection and carbon storage, but my primary concern is with the lack of truly wild places left in Britain. Rewilding is a chance for us to build wonderful habitats for endangered species, increase biodiversity with keystone species and benefit people and wildlife for the long term future. I'm hiking the 87 miles of the Chilterns Ridgeway National Trail non stop, aiming to finish within 36 hours. Why the Chilterns? Basically, it is the closest long distance hike from my house, but it is also an AONB and is surprisingly one of the most wooded parts of England, with 13% of it's land made up of ancient woodland. It is an area that has already seen the extremely successful reintroduction of the Red Kite, maybe this could just be the beginning?
Thank you all for visiting and for supporting. I really appreciate it.
