Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.A group of us (led by the Hove Business Association, who've made The Sussex Heart Charity their charity for 2014) are frantically walking, running and generally exerting ourselves to raise as much as we can to buy Heart Defibrillators.
We (and you) can help prevent unnecessary deaths.Every year, people have heart attacks on the streets of Hove and Portslade, and some of them die because there wasn’t a Defibrillator machine nearby. Our aim is to raise as much as we can to prevent these unnecessary deaths. Each machine costs around £1,000, and with your help we'd like to put three machines on our streets.
How does a defibrillator work?Heart Automated External Defibrillators (AED’s) are designed to allow the general public to save lives. They are easy to use: a computer inside the AED analyses the patient’s heart rhythm to determine if a shock is required. If it is, the AED uses voice instructions to guide the user and hopefully save the person’s life.
Miranda Martin has run TWO Marathons! HUGE thanks to Miranda from Rix and Kay Bunkers (our favourite Solicitors) for running in not one, but TWO Marathons - Brighton on the 6th April, and London on the 13th April. She did the 10k Brighton Marathon, and the full body-punishing 26 miles of the London Marathon only a week later. So every penny that you give to support her is a penny that she's fought very hard for.
Some of the HBA Executive members take a walk!
OK, it seems a bit lame after Miranda's super-human efforts, but then our training regime was a bit different - basically, we didn't do any. Which was a mistake...
Take a dull and overcast Sunday morning, throw in the chance of a
bracing squall or two, and add a force six westerly just for good measure – and
you can see how a five mile stroll gets a tad tiring. But we did it – HBA
Chair, Jill Humphrey, Vice Chair, Ed Carr, and fellow HBA member and staunch
supporter Clive Bonny (not forgetting Binky, his dog), all completed the task
in aid of the Defib Fund. And after all their efforts – all you need to do is
hit the “Donate” button!
The Sussex Heart Charity are going to match whatever you give. We can't thank Terry Ayers, the Chief Executive Officer at Sussex Heart Charity enough - he has generously offered to match EVERY PENNY that we can raise! We reckon that we can raise at least £1,500 - with Terry's matching donation, that's three machines.
So now it's over to you... Thank you so much for donating whatever you can afford - your generosity is very much appreciated, in particular by every individual whose life is saved by a machine that you helped to buy.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.
