Story
The Ironbridge Gorge Museum Trust has a diverse collection of objects, sites and monuments of international significance located through the World Heritage Site. They include 5 scheduled Ancient Monuments and a large estate of historic buildings, 25 of which are listed as Grade I, Grade II* or Grade II. These have been subject to comprehensive programmes of conservation and repair, detailed archaeological recording and research.
Our collections cover:
- Material on the history of iron making
- bridge building
- civil engineering
- brick and tile manufacture
- coal mining
- the pottery and porcelain industries
- railways & canals
- the social history of the East Shropshire Coalfield
In addition to these core collections, archaeological collections are held here and include material excavated in the Ironbridge Gorge , most of which is pre-medieval in date.
All of our collections and historic buildings need constant care, so please donate to help this vital work!
