Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The London Marathon is on my 'to do before I'm 40' hit list. I'm the big 4-0 in July this year! It's something I've always wanted to do but never secured a place until this year. It's fitting that I've managed to bag my spot this year, nearly 12 months after the beautiful Jackie McGovern passed away. I'm running it in memory of her, and want to raise as much as I can for the North London Hospice - a fantastic place, full of fantastic people, who helped to make Jackie's final weeks the best they possibly could be.
So far my training has been fraught with injury and pain. I'm training hard. Getting up at 6am to run the 7 miles from Muswell Hill to my office at Tottenham Court Road. It's harsh, especially on these cold mornings. I have a calf injury which is preventing my getting past 10 miles right now, but I'm determined I'm going to complete the task, in time, and raise as much money as I can for such a great cause - The North London Hospice in Barnet - North London.
North London Hospice runs entirely on donations and volunteers. It's bright, upbeat, friendly, caring place full of amazing people who spend their time tirelessly caring for those that are there to spend their final days.
And for most it is days, but not for Jackie - she hung on it there for the best part of five months! She became a fixture of the place, and everyone who worked there grew to love her just as we all did. She brought hope and life to a place that represented loss and sorrow. For five months the staff at the North London Hospice attended to her every whim kept her comfortable and positive all the way.
My finish target is the whole 26 miles in under 3.5 hours, which would be a massive achievement. But I'm determined to do it, and raise as much as I can for this fabulous cause.
I want to raise a minimum of £2500 for the North London Hospice - even more if I can. Please donate generously and help to keep this special place running for all that need it.
The other day I was having a pariculary tough time training - let was killing me - I was running along through Highgate Woods and started thinking about Jax, when all of a sudden a big gust of wind hit me from behind. That was Jax for sure... pushing me along :-)
Come and watch me on Sunday 13th April if you are free - I'll be the one with Jackie on my back all the way.
Cheers and thanks to all that donate.
