Story
On the 17th April 2014 I walked out of Harrogate Hospital to face my husband and two children all set for a family day out having just been informed that I had Skin Cancer. Until I heard the words I was oblivious. I will never forget trying to hold it together trying to explain to my two girls (6 and 7) why Mummy had to go back to hospital for another operation because that mole was a naughty one and they needed to take more of Mummy’s hip away. What was a casual question to my GP, Does this look OK? Turned into an outcome I was in no way expecting. I feel I am one of the lucky ones, my cancer was less than 1mm, so hopefully they have got it all out now, and I just need to keep going for checks to make sure it has not spread… I know that there are many people much worse off than me. What has staggered me is the ignorance of this deadly cancer, so much more needs to be done to make people more aware of one of the biggest cancer killers. I am now fully committed to 12 Months of fundraising and I was delighted to find a charity where 100% will go towards raising money for Skin Cancer. My team are people close to me, associated with me or share common aims to fight Skin Cancer. Each will share an experience or hosting an event over the next 12 months to hopefully hit (or smash) our Fund Raising Target.
