Story
My cousins are wheelchair users and they find it very difficult to do some of the things we find easy, like going to the toilet. If there isn’t a Changing Places toilet there isn’t a day out, because they need things such as a hoist and changing table.
As you probably know I love getting out and riding my bike. I don’t need to think about where the nearest loo is. Even in the countryside I can always find a bush! Imagine if you had to plan every trip in your daily life around where a Changing Places toilet can be found.
PAMIS is a charity that is coordinating the campaign for more Changing Places toilets in Scotland and I want to help raise awareness (and money) for this basic but critical need. A couple of years ago my dad cycled from Leeds to Arbroath to help raise enough money for a Changing Places toilet in Arbroath. I helped him a bit (especially up some of the big hills!) and so did a lot of other people, including lots of people from PAMIS and their supporters.
On Saturday 24th September I am hoping to cycle 100km, along with my dad and Auntie Lois, as part of the ‘Loo Tour’ to raise more money and awareness about Changing Places toilets. I am hoping to raise as much as I can for this. If you kindly donate I might even reach my target of £500. If you would like to donate even a small amount it doesn’t matter. It still builds up to a thing that matters, not just for my cousins’ life but all people like my cousins.
My Auntie Lois and PAMIS have put loads of work into making this cycle event happen. We are trying to get as many people as we can to come along and cycle to make more people aware of the need for more Changing Places toilets. If you would like to have a go, join me on the 100km ride (‘The Big One’) around Angus (starting in Arbroath) on Saturday 24th September. If this sounds a bit much, why not have go at the 10 miler (‘No.2’), along the cycle path from Dobbies in Dundee to Arbroath on Sunday 25th September, or 'Just a wee at No.3’ along Arbroath seafront, also on the Sunday.
