Story
James' son and Cath's nephew is a lovely 6 year old boy called Jimmy. At birth, Jimmy was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). As Jimmy is growing up, PWS presents ever-changing challenges. Alongside his behavioural and developmental delay, Jimmy has a constant hunger for food. The message our brain sends to our tummy when we've had enough to eat simply doesn't happen for Jimmy. This leaves him with an insatiable appetite and desire to find food which, without 24/7 support and supervision, puts Jimmy at risk of all sorts of additional health concerns. With food being so essential to every day life, as well as being an inevitable part of socialising (Birthdays, Easter, Christmas to name but a few), all of us have had to adapt.
James and Cath are running the marathon to raise money for Prader-Willi Syndrome Association UK (PWSA), a charity that offers invaluable support to families experiencing the daily challenges of PWS. PWSA also supports research studies in the hope that, one day, a cure might be found for this constant hunger that people with PWS suffer.
Thank you for taking the time to read about Prader-Willi Syndrome, helping us to raise both awareness and money for such a worthy cause.
Wish us luck with our running!
