As many of you know, Jenni lost her long battle with cancer on Monday. Jenni died peacefully at Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds surrounded by family and friends as well as the many cards, gifts and flowers from all those who loved her.
Throughout her long battle, Jenni was eternally grateful for the support she received from the dedicated and caring NHS medical professionals - from her local GP to all the consultants, doctors, nurses and staff at the Bexley Wing at St James'. The care she received was second-to-none and the whole family felt supported throughout this terrible time.
This summer, Jenni was doing well despite having daily pain due to the progression of her illness and the many chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments she had had. However, in August, Jenni's condition worsened rapidly leaving her with reduced mobility and sight and this is where Wheatfields took over and looked after her (and us) until she passed away on Monday 20th September.
Wheatfields is a truly amazing place and the care we received helped make a horrific few weeks less horrific. Everyone there works together as a team - from the consultants, doctors, nurses, ambulance staff, housekeepers to the chefs, kitchen staff and receptionists. Many are volunteers who give their time to support people at their lowest point. Nothing at Wheatfields is too much trouble, from emotional and spiritual support to clinical help and care. Despite the obvious progression of her disease, and the loss of her independence, Jenni was treated as a human being and was supported by the doctors and nurses with care and respect.
All of these services, for both Jenni and family and friends, are invaluable, however, unfortunately, they do come with significant cost and Sue Ryder do not receive full funding from the NHS. Wheatfields estimate that care for a single person costs around £500 per day and therefore we would like to raise £8500 (or more) to allow Wheatfields to continue their excellent work and help other people and families like us.
Whatever we raise, all of the money will go to Wheatfields and in Jenni's memory they will hopefully be able to continue to care for people with warmth and provide dignity for those at the end of their lives.

Thank you in advance.
Love from Marc, the Coles, the Thomas family, Cat, Mai Mai and all who knew and loved the beautiful, wonderful force-of-nature that was Jenni
