Story
The Challenge..
Jessica is going to be one of the 12 volunteers from Sea Cadets who will be joining leg six in the Clipper Round the World Race, from Qingdao to San Francisco!
Jessica Barton a 26 year old music teacher and a volunteer from Walton on the Naze Sea Cadet unit, applied for the race as it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity, and she never expected to be successful in her application!
Jessica's Story..
I received the email from Sea Cadets about the opportunity; it seemed too good to be true and assumed it was a joke! But after making small talk with some colleagues at Area Summer Camp they were all talking about Clipper and this e-mail, and so I applied straight away. I’m really looking forward to the challenge and the training has been tough. I do have sailing experience but only for tall ships, but sailing a yacht is a very new and exciting experience. I’ve really enjoyed meeting everyone on the training days. I’ve learnt so many transferable skills – such as leadership, team work and communication skills, that I can use in my job as a teacher.
I support the Sea Cadets because Sea Cadets supported me! I have been a member since I was 12 years old, having made my way through the ranks, and onto becoming staff. I have also completed my Gold DofE.
This is one of the biggest challenges of my life, please donate anything you can to support me on this journey whilst raising money for the Sea Cadets!
