Story
Thank you for visiting the Justgiving page that has been set up in memory of Jon Hard. Although his tragic passing is the impetus for setting up this page, the fund-raising cause is one which any visitor can empathise with: Mary's Meals - a 93% efficient charity, sponsoring vulnerable children in developing nations.
As most people that visit this site will know, Jon was a caring, compassionate young man, who had a great future ahead of him. Throughout his studies (at both Warwick School and Oxford University), Jon had a passionate interest in the Developing world. This was clearly demonstrated by his decision to travel extensively across Asia on his Gap Year, and his interest in working abroad on a placement for an NGO and travelling further afield to Developing countries after university.
Although Jon had an interest in a number of charities, Jon had mentioned the brilliant work that Mary's Meals conducts to a close friend shortly before his death. This, coupled with the fact that it is a relatively small charity that ensures that all money donated is spent on school meals for school children in the Developing world, makes it a particularly worthwhile cause. Hence, we have decided to set up this page to ensure that all charitable donations that are made to remember Jon are pooled together, and given to a charity that was especially close to Jon's heart.
Mary's Meals feeds a school child all its school meals for £6.15 PER YEAR. Thus, we ask that people donate what they can, in multiples of £6.15. Please sponsor 1, 2, 3 or more school children's meals for a year, in order that Jon can be remembered in the proper manner. Feel free to donate whatever you can to the cause, even if it is only £6.15 or £12.30 - every bit counts as we strive to reach the target figure and gain something positive out of this tragic accident.
Please be as generous as you can...if you knew Jon, this gift delivers so much more than flowers; if you didn't know him, foregoing just two pints feeds a child for a year. If you didn't know him, in 2009, enough money was raised to build a school kitchen and feed 500 kids for a year. What will they eat this year if we don't help?
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: Mary's Meals is a subsidiary of Scottish International Relief (SIR), and we will ensure that any money donated will be earmarked specifically by SIR for Mary's Meals. The charity will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid can be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Please donate generously. For more info on the charity, please see www.marysmeals.org. For people wishing to make offline donations, please look at http://www.marysmeals.org/uk/donate.html and please report any offline donations to one of the page owners (Tim Hard / Daniel Dimson) so that these can be incorporated into meeting the target above.
Many thanks for your support.
