Story
Hi,
As you have heard I'm giving up all unhealthy food for 1 week - starting 9th November 2015! Why am I doing this?
Well for some of us having a takeaway each week, buying crisps, snacks, chocolate, sweets, McDonalds, can seem like normal life. But for many people, these are luxury items. I'm giving them up for a week, firstly, as a reminder of how blessed I am and to remember those without - especially as we approach Christmas.
The second reason, is I'm keen to raise money for my local Christian's Against Poverty centre at Shoreline Church in Southport.
Christians Against Poverty is a UK charity working to lift people out of hardship via debt counselling, money management courses, job clubs and release groups. All of CAP’s services are free and available to everyone, regardless of age, gender, faith or background. CAP’s debt help alone helps more than 12,000 people every year.
Anyone can easily slip into a spiral of debt. Money raised does NOT go to helping people pay off their debts. But it does go to towards the running cost of Southport CAP Centre so that a Debt Coach can visit clients to help people pay off their debts by arranging agreements with creditors and ensuring the debt can be paid off without causing stress, anxiety, poverty and mental health problems.
At Christmas, CAP also arranges food parcels and toys to be delivered to families who struggle specifically at this time of year.
