Story
Between 12 June and 17 July, Kristian and I are on a BIG ADVENTURE! We’re driving a 1972 Ford Capri from China to France as part of an epic 36-day endurance event covering 13,700km.
One hundred participating Classic cars (models from 1914-1975), including our trusty 1972 FORD CAPRI, will start from China’s Great Wall on Sunday 12 June finishing in Place Vendome, Paris, on Sunday 17 July. The route includes stunningly beautiful, albeit adventurous, tough terrain in northern Mongolia (including the Gobi Desert), through Russia and the Republic of Belarus and on to Europe where we’ll be challenged with timed closed-road Alpine climbs and off-road circuits. We have to carry camping gear and all spares for the car and have to strictly keep to a rigorous schedule so as not to be left behind! We have to be prepared to rough it on a fairly regular basis and it’s going to be really testing and tiring as some of the days are long and require huge stamina and determination; several days of camping beside lakes and rivers in Mongolia, where temperatures can fall to minus 15 centigrade overnight, will no doubt prove a great bonding experience for this father and son! If you’d like to follow us along our epic journey, please check out Kristian's blog www.peking2parisblog.com and for more information and a map of our route, visit www.endurorally.com Peking to Paris.
And how can you help? For many years I’ve been supporting The Bombolulu School of Promise; a small school for some 400 of the poorest children in Mombasa, and it would be great if you could spare a small (or large!) donation, to give these youngsters the chance of a decent future. £10,000 will build two new classrooms for the 3-5 year olds plus will enable some of the teenagers to continue with their education at boarding school which costs approximately £350 per child per year. Our challenge, therefore, is not only to drive the adventurous Peking to Paris 13,700km route, but to help the children of Bombolulu with their education. We've already got off to a fantastic start with £5,000-worth of sponsorship from Grandstand Motorsports and American Queen Steamboat Co. and we really hope you'll be able to help; please contribute if you can. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
