Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
The British Kidney Patient Association (BKPA) is a well established charity working to improve the quality of life for adults and children with kidney disease.
Staff at Tesco Penicuik are holding a charity night in order to raise money and awareness for The British Kidney Patient Association to support our friend and colleague, Kayleigh Hume, who is currently dealing with the life changing disease.
At the age of just 16 Kayleigh discovered she had a rare genetic kidney disease known as Alports Syndrome. Although diagnosed at 16, no one expected Kayleigh to be just 21 when her kidney function started to deteriorate.
At the age of 22 her life now consists of going into hospital three times a week to get dialysis until she gets a transplant. Her life has changed massively and this disease will always play a part in her life, even after her transplant. She has suffered huge affects of this disease including swelling, sickness, weight loss, insomnia and itchy skin just to name a few.
Despite this, she has continued to smile throughout and has a very positive attitude towards everything that is being thrown at her. Everyone that knows Kayleigh will know how brave and positive she has been throughout her illness. Kayleigh is continuing with her dialysis treatment three times a week while she waits for a kidney transplant.
Since being diagnosed, the British Kidney Patient Association has been there to support Kayleigh and her family to come to terms with the disease and the effects it has on daily life. BKPA provide Grants to help patients and families with kidney disease to help them cover the costs of domestic bills, hospital travel, education and holidays. They also provide financial support to kidney units throughout the UK to help improve kidney services and patient care. They provide levels of financial support which other charities simply cannot do.
BKPA make this life changing disease that little bit easier to cope with and are making a difference in so many peoples lives. Please give generously to support this amazing charity with the work that they do, to improve the quality of life for people just like Kayleigh.
