Story

HELLO!

Thanks for taking the time to visit...you've got this far so please take a minute to read on and click the DONATE button!

In June 2012, siblings Rob & Kate Alexander are donning their padded shorts and hitting the roads of France to raise funds for the Kit Wilson Trust Animal Welfare.  Our family has been involved with the Trust for many years and have been lucky enough to adopt a huge number of fabulous animals over the years.

THE CHALLENGE: Starting at Itteville, France (just south of Paris) we will embark on an epic journey to return back to Newick in just 2 and a half days. Leaving Itteville on Friday morning we will travel on 2 wheels (no motor) the 133 miles to Dieppe ready for a 6am ferry on Sunday Morning.  The aim is to stay in a hotel on the Saturday night, however based on current training progress, I could be cycling up until the ferry leaves!  Following a tumultuous ferry crossing, we complete the last 20 miles on bike from Newhaven to Newick.

Rob is an avid cyclist, having completed the Etape Du Tour and South Downs Challenge in 2011.  Kate loves the sofa and hasn't ridden a bike since she was a child....if there isn't a sibling fall out then a miracle has happened!

This is something that we have planned ourselves with only the help of AA Routeplanner. With no GPS and only a basic understanding of the French language, the likelyhood of cycling a far greater distance is a stark reality.

THE CHARITY! From a modest beginning the Kit Wilson Trust has grown, and in 1986 set up its own Animal Rescue Centre at Hadlow Down, in East Sussex. In addition to the animal rescue and re-homing work, the Trust has become increasingly involved in wildlife rehabilitation, and operates a wildlife emergency help line. Over the years, the Rescue Centre has also become a permanent home to many animals which it is not possible or desirable to re-home: these include horses, donkeys, cats, goats, birds and small rodents.  Unlike other animal welfare organisations they NEVER PUT A HEALTHY ANIMAL DOWN!

More information on the trust can be found at www.kitwilsontrust.org.uk - if you can spare a few quid to help continue the great work the trust do it would be hugely appreciated and will spur us on in what is going to be nothing short of horrible!

MANY THANKS

Kate & Rob
