Story
Thursday 20th March 2014 marks the one year anniversary of my Uncle Terral's death.
After a 3 and a half year battle with cancer, last year we suddenly found ourselves with a big gaping Terral shaped hole in our lives. To ensure he lives on, not only through our love for him and our memories of him but through helping others in the way that he wanted to do, my wonderful and amazing Aunty Mandy set up The Terral Morgan Memorial Fund.
Within a year, the work we have achieved as family and friends has been phenomenal. From organising and participating in a 12 hour readathon of Homer's The Odyssey raising £2,700, hosting the Shatterday music festival, and achieving official charity status, the fund has grown into such a wonderful demonstration of how one family, specifically one woman, can channel the pain and grief of losing someone so important into something so productive and worthwhile.
A year before Terral died, he said to me that the one thing he wished that he could see me do was graduate. Unfortunately, he knew he wouldn't. However, I am nearly (FINALLY) there. The end is nigh and soon I hope to have my degree.
So, in the run up to my dissertation deadline and my final year exams I am giving up social media for 70 days to fundraise for The Terral Morgan Memorial Fund and to try and graduate with flying colours in the attempt to make my Uncle Terral proud. He is also the one person who would persisently tell me off for constantly being on my phone on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram so I know that he would very much approve of this challenge.
This 70 day period will span from Thursday 20th March to Saturday 31st May which is the day I know all of my exams will finally be over.
I will not be allowed to access Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat. For those of you who know me well this is an incredibly ambitious endeavour (how else am I going to procrastinate writing my dissertation?!?!?).
I really hope you can support me and sponsor any amount you can from £1 to, well, however generous you are willing to be. Every penny will go towards supporting somebody with cancer who just needs that little bit of extra help.
Thank you so much.
And thank you, Terral for inspiring us and giving us the strength to try and be as amazing as you were. Love you forever. Saudade.
