Background

My Dad passed away in November 2012 and my brother Simon & I have been keen to organise a fundraiser as a thank you to the Prospect Hospice near Swindon who cared for Dad so wonderfully during the last few weeks of his life.

The Prospect Hospice is funded in large part by donations and the service & support they provide to the local community, as my family & I have experienced at first hand, at such a difficult time, is invaluable.

The C2C

“The 140 mile Coast to Coast (C2C) route is best ridden from West to East to take advantage of the prevailing winds (supposedly!) from the West as well as having the gradients in your favour; i.e. short uphill’s and long downhill’s Tradition dictates that you start the ride by dipping your back wheel in the Irish Sea and only ends when your front wheel gets a dip in the North Sea at the finish.”

I had discussed tackling the C2C a few times in the past, but this now seems the perfect opportunity to take it on, have some fun and support a very good cause along the way. We have a 'team' of 15 riders of very mixed ability and so I think it’s now about time we stopped talking about it and get on and do it!

As I say, this will be a group of very varied abilities and this trip will be as much about the social side as the physical achievement of the ride itself. As such, the plan is to tackle the ride over 3 days to ensure that we keep the daily mileage to a sensible number (!) and that we have at least a couple of enjoyable overnight pub stops.
