SHOCC is helping to build a girls' school in Moshi, Tanzania and work is proceeding well. In 2007 we raised £7000 and this allowed the Sisters of the Assumption to purchase the land and begin construction. In September 2009 I returned to the school and saw at first hand the tremendous progress that has taken place since my last visit. The roof is now in place and the classrooms are ready to be plastered. I was able to give Sister Schola another cheque from SHOCC, this time for £3000, and it has already been used to add the windows. The next challenge is to add the doors. They have been constructed by local carpenters and are ready.

The plan is now for the school to open with its first students in September 2010. A headteacher has been appointed and pupils are applying for places already. If we can continue to move towards our target of £10,000, the Sisters can purchase the desks and chairs and teaching can begin on time.

I've added a few photos of the school showing the build from foundations to windows being added. I've also included some of our potential future pupils (the girl's only!) and some of Sister Schola, our energetic and enthusiastic 'building supervisor', visiting the site. The building you see will have to start as a classroom, dining room, dormitory and administration block!

£85 will buy a door and we still need 10. 

£8 will buy a desk and a chair and we need 30!

A smaller donation such as £2 will buy a box of nails and £5 a timber joist.

Every single pound that you give will go directly to the Sisters at Chekereni as SHOCC has no administration costs.
