Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I've had the opportunity to take part in a walk to help raise money for our own chosen charity. I'm walking 20 miles through the South Downs. It will hopefully take me about 7-8 hours weather, knees and blisters permitting. As the Scottish Rugby player Gavin Hastings famously said "Walking a mile is the same as running a mile". Even though I'm quite fit, it's definitely going to be tough going.
Why am I doing it for Crossroads Caring? They provide critical support for people whose lives involve being the full-time carers of loved ones. Whether that's parents of children with life threatening illness, young children whose daily role is to be the carer of their parents or adults caring for their partners or parents. Crossroads help by providing a few hours of respite a week. It means that carers can get a few hours needed sleep, get some fresh air, do homework, concentrate on other family members or sometimes just get out of the house. All things that we take for granted.
My dad suffered a series of strokes 8 yrs ago. Following over 18 mths in hospital and rehab his life is very different. He went from being a completely independent professional man, husband and father to needing full time care and support. That role has been my mum since then. Crossroads are a charity that mean that, even if it's just to get to the shops or get some fresh air or catch up on housework or jobs, she gets a few hours a week to herself. I would love it if more carers could get more support and more time to take a break from what is one of the toughest jobs there is.
The charity often have to temporary suspend support as funding is so tight. So every contribution genuinely makes a massive difference to many people. Please support in any way you can. Thanks
