Story
A Dutchman and an English woman go for a bike ride... And decide to partake in the London to Paris '16 to help raise some money for their inspiring employer and local charity - The Orpheus Centre.
You will see us willing ourselves through 300 miles over four days through the highs and lows of Surrey and Kent's Landscape and in to France in total fear, confusion and desparation and we'd love to share our story with you along the way.
The Orpheus Centre is a performing arts charity for young disabled adults, their ultimate goal is to help their students become as independent as possible. There are many services at the centre, and here's three of them:
- Domiciliary Care: A busy bunch who help the students help themselves every day by helping them up in the morning and, you know, encouraging them to brush their teeth and to plan their own lives. This department isn't to be taken lightly as these guys help our students improve their independence on a daily - no sorry - hourly basis.
- The Learning Team: An energetic collective of inspiring teachers and learning support assistants that keep our students' heads full of ideas and deliver our education curriculum - as well as hosting several shows a year.
- Transition Team: A mini but mighty department that help our students plan their future after Orpheus. They help the students scout their chosen area, choose accommodation and further education. This lot help our students find work experience, volunteering and paid work opportunities.
At present there are numerous plans to expand the centre so we can achieve even more. These plans include a new, bigger and better life skills kitchen so our students can learn how to cook as independently as possible, an outdoor gym and more teaching resources.
If you believe in independence for all and want to help a local charity then please help The Orpheus Centre. We'd love for you to be part of our journey full of larks and self-deprecation so please sponsor us and follow us onwards to Paris! Our thighs will appreciate it!
