Lee Rimmer and Phill Warburton have been working together for twenty two years. Sixteen years ago we started Specialist Frame. As well as cycling to work we have both taken part in various charity rides and also cycle in our spare time.
Lands End to John O'Groats (LEJOG) has been discussed many times during these rides. As we could not come up with any more excuses not to do it we decided 2012 was the year.
LEJOG is one of the ultimate achievements for any cyclist so we decided to rise to the challenge. Hopefully raising some money for Stick 'n' Step - a local childrens charity in the process. Phill has been cycling since he was in short trousers and Lee took up the sport a few years ago.
The trip would normally take two weeks but because of work commitments we are planning to complete the route in eight days. Day five of the trip is the longest stage which will take us from Hightown (our home town) to Langholm in Scotland! 138 miles including climbing Shap Fell.
We have planned the 918 mile trip for the first week in June, taking advantage of the two day bank holiday for the Queens Diamond Jubilee. We will set off from Lands End on Saturday 2nd June and arrive in John O'Groats on Saturday 9th June.
Training for the trip has involved us taking the long way home from work (twenty miles instead of seven) every day, and cycling one hundred miles plus at the weekend.
When selecting a charity to ride for we looked for a cause that would benefit children in the local area.
We will be cycling to the following itinerary:
Day One: Lands End to Morton Hampstead - 118 miles
Day Two: Morton Hampstead to Elberton - 121 miles
Day Three: Elberton to Whitchurch - 112 miles
Day Four: Whitchurch to Hightown - 52 miles
Day Five: Hightown to Langholm (Scotland) - 138 miles
Day Six: Langholm to Dunkeld - 132 miles
Day Seven: Dunkeld to Bonar Bridge - 136 miles
Day Eight: Bonar Bridge to John O'Groats - 109 miles
