Story

Leeds 10k run Sunday 10 July 16

As in previous years LC Vehicle Hire staff, headed by our Managing Director Chris Miller, we will be running in the above event and are looking to raise funds for a worthy charity.

This year the chosen charity will be the Teenage Cancer Trust at Sheffield's Weston Park hospital.  The teenage cancer trust unit has bespoke, dedicated 'in patient' bedrooms, along with many other facilities that cater for 13-24 year old's who are suffering from all other forms of cancer. The staff on the unit are specifically trained to deal with this age group and provide a caring atmosphere of positivity and support in dealing with very poorly young people.

The reason for selecting the charity is that Mitch Barnes, our operations managers, his daughter Leanne was diagnosed with breast cancer at the tender age of 22 in October 2014.  He told us that the treatment and support that they received from the unit for Leanne and his family during this very traumatic period, was second to none.

We always like to think that it is nice to have a positive and inspiring story with fund raising events like this and this is definitely the case with Leanne.  After two operations and enduring countless sessions of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, thankfully she is now in remission. Leanne now 'gives back' and raises awareness of breast cancer in young women by giving talks to women's groups and her journey has been used in various national newspapers to help raise the profile of breast cancer awareness in young women.

The profile picture that we have used shows Leanne winning the pride of Marks and Spencer's award for volunteering.

All donations made on the just giving page go directly to the Sheffield Weston Park Hospital trust and the full amount will then be allocated to the teenage Cancer Unit.

So please dig deep for what is a very worthy charity, we know from first hand experience that Weston Park Hospital truly does a remarkable job of caring for young people in their time of need.

Many thanks from all at LC Vehicle Hire and Leanne Barnes.
