We at animal helpline, rescue unwanted dogs and puppies, and rehome them to new loving homes. Thousands of unwanted, strays and pound dogs have found their way through our kennels during the 30 years that we have been rescuing and rehoming dogs.

The shelter is ran  purely on the help and support of the volunteers who have a huge love and passion for dogs. Many of the dogs at the shelter are from the pound where the shelter is there last chance of a new start in life before they are put to sleep. Here is a poem that was writing by one of the volunteers.

I don't know why I went there

I just know I was found

And then somebody took me

To a place they call the pound

There were many dogs around me

I felt their bewilderment and pain

Then one day they disappeared

And never barked again

Then it come to my turn

I was quaking in my paws

They put a lead around my neck

And lead me to the doors

I was very frightened

I realised my fate

I offered up a silent prayer

As they opened up the gate

Then I felt the sunshine

In the distance stood a man

He picked me up and carefully

Placed me in his van

Then I heard the man speak

He said that I was safe

I was being taken

To a place they call AH

We travelled quite a distance

And then at journeys end

The van doors opened slowly

And I recognised true friends

Quite quickly someone spotted me

They looked in to my soul

Looked past my colour and breed

And saw me as a whole

I went home to live with them

My new life had begun

I have been so very lucky

To have found a dad and mum

Some dogs are not so fortunate

They wait for quite a while

Maybe they are not so pretty

Or they do not make you smile

Please do not over look them

They have so much love to share

A second chance is all they need

And someone to show they care

Now I send out a message

Will you listen to my plea

There are still so very, many dogs

Who are unwanted, just like me

We do not ask for much

Some food, a bed, a bone

A walk, a brush a comfy lap

But most of all a home

Remember if you re-home a dog from Animal helpline you will be saving the life of another dog!

We are an independent 'last resort' dog rescue centre and our aim is to rescue unwanted dogs and seek loving new homes for them. Many dogs would have been destroyed had we not intervened and offered them a lifeline and the chance of a life with new, loving owners.
