Story
Kate, Jo, Rosie and Alice will be taking part in this year's 'Race for Life: Pretty Muddy' in Brighton on 4th July to raise money for the Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust. Please donate whatever you can to help us reach our target of £1,000.
We have selected the Butterfly Thyroid Cancer Trust as Kate and Jo's mum, Barbara Harrison, died last year after being diagnosed with anaplastic carcinoma, a very rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer which only affects one in a million people per year. Since it is so uncommon, there has been very little research into finding out its causes and investigating possible treatments to battle it.
We will also be participating in memory of Barbara.
There will never be enough words to describe how much we loved her, will continue to love her and how very much we miss her.
We are so proud of her. She got annoyed when people said how brave and strong she had been - but they were right. In barely a few months from her diagnosis in July, through to the end in October, she faced an unspeakable living nightmare with such elegance, fierceness and composure.
We will always wish we had more time, to share, make memories from, to say all the things we wanted to say. But it would never have been enough. We can only hope that we never forget a thing, and that every single moment and memory that we have of her will be held in the centre of our hearts forever so that when we think of her we will feel warm and smile.
Our hearts are broken now that she is gone, but she will live forever in our memories as the best mum, the best friend and the best person we will have ever known.
And this small gesture is a tribute to her memory.
