Thanks for taking the time to visit the Liverpool Heart & Chest Hospital Therapy team JustGiving page.
The challenge:
Is to walk the three national peaks starting on 10th June 2015. So that's Snowden (1085m), Scarfell Pike (978m) and Ben Nevis (1344m) in that order.
Each of the national peaks can be challenging enough to walk on just a single occasion but we are pushing the challenge a few steps further by walking all the three peaks back to back. This means eating, drinking and sleeping in a minibus in between each peak.
In addition to this many of the challenge team members are novices and have never walked a mountain before or are the sporty/fitness type so this challenge is far from a walk in the park. In fact there are many conditioned mountain walkers who have failed in there attempts at the 3 peaks.
To achieve our gruelling team goal it will require many long training days pounding up and down mountains and getting to a level of physical and mental condition required to face the challenge. Our training has already started and so far we have achieved the peak of Snowden in the November wind and rain, in the January Snow of Y Garn and twice weekly after work aerobics classes. We'll provide further updates on our progress on our Twitter page @lhch3peak and Facebook page as we go so please visit, like and share.
Why are we doing this?:
It's a question we asked ourselves following the drenching, cold, many blisters, aches and pains that's followed Snowden - but every week 12 apparently healthy young people die from undiagnosed heart conditions. In brief the Vital Signs Foundation (VSF) provides free heart screenings to young people aged 15 - 35 for undiagnosed heart conditions. The funding target if achieved will provide 85 screenings for young people so it is really a worthy cause and could make a difference to save a young persons life. Please visit the VSF link if you would like to find out more about the charity.
