Story
On 24 June 2016 a group of four amputees and 15 able-bodied supporters set off on a three day 188 mile challenge to cycle from Morecambe to Bridlington raising money for LImbpower. Limbpower is a small UK based charity dedicated to providing opportunities for amputees and those with limb impairment. The route was tough, the hills were extremely steep on occasions and the BBC needs a new three raindrop icon for how wet it was on our first day. It was both an adventure and a challenge through spectacular scenery. A fantastic achievement for everyone but in particular for our amputee friends.
For those who lose a limb reaching their sporting potential can be a real challenge. This is not a priority area for spending in the NHS or by local authorities. It can be daunting to find a sport or activity and this is where Limbpower comes in. The charity runs multi-sport events where new activities can be tried out in an encouraging and supportive environment, providing advice and guidance to enable participation in sport. We all know how powerful sport can be in contributing to personal wellbeing. The chance to talk to fellow amputees is priceless helping, as it does, to deal with an isolating injury or condition.
Everyone doing the event paid their own costs so all of the money raised through this Just Giving page is going to the charity. By supporting Limbpower you will be enabling the charity to run its annual Limbpower Games for adults and juniors. The Games are inclusive; the emphasis is on joining in and a willingness to try. In doing this the Games have already spotted 12 Paralympic athletes and for many others has enabled sport to re-enter their lives.
Your support will enable more people to benefit from sporting activities and you never know one of them might be standing on the Gold Medal Rostrum at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games!
