Story
The Lions Jubilee Marathon row took place on the Thames between 8-10 June starting in Reading and finishing outside Windsor Castle (Queens residence). The Royal barge “Thamesis” was flanked by two rowing quads from Windsor Boys school and an adaptive single rowing boat.
Friday was unprecedented weather in June as a low pressure sat across the country causing 45 mph winds, despite this the team made it safely to Henley on Thames, the home of international rowing regatta. Saturday morning the sun shone down on the flotilla as we were joined by the Home Secretary, the right honourable Theresa May MP and the Mayor of Henley as well as the Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead plus all their partners. After rowing them down the Henley course we returned them safely and carried on downstream to arrive in Bourne End. Sunday was another good day of weather as we rowed to Windsor Castle with the Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead aboard to finish outside the castle to a rapturous applause from the public.
En-route we handed out 1,000’s of flyers promoting awareness of the events aims as well as our sponsors, as well as fundraising with a teams in each village along the route.
