Story
Lipoedema is a horrid medical condition. It only started to be recognized by medical establishments during the 1990s and yet affects many women (and occasionally some men). There is no cure.
What is Lipoedema? We all have our ‘faults’; no one on this planet is ‘perfect’ but, rather cruelly, nature has created this condition that abnormally accumulates adipose tissue (fat cells) in the lower half of the body - sometimes elsewhere too. It is unsightly and to the untrained (and yet critical) eye mimics obesity.
There are no cures and those with Lipoedema must live with constant stares and …occasionally …some very unkind words.
It is entirely unrelated to the quantity of food someone consumes and is a most painful condition to have to live with. Slimming diets do nothing for lipoedemic fat. Conventional exercise is nearly impossible and can actually exacerbate the condition. (As you can imagine, before someone is diagnosed with Lipoedema they will have tried everything to reduce and change their shape.) A complementary therapy known as ‘Manual Lymphatic Drainage’ (MLD) is known to alleviate the pain of lipoedema.
The MLDuk Association has set up a fund to help those who cannot afford MLD treatments and I am raising money for them at www.justgiving.com/lipoedema. It would be wonderful if you would consider making a donation.
If you would like to discuss this further I would be happy to talk: www.unknot.me
Otherwise I hope you have a good day and may life grant you a happy and healthy life.
Thank you,
Helen x
