We improve the lives of deaf children to enable them to succeed at school

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

"Mary Hare School is a non-maintained special school providing for profoundly and severely deaf children from all over the UK.They believe that ALL deaf children should receive the eduction and support which will enable them to achieve their full potential at home, school and in their subsequent careers.

This is a very personal charity to me as I have a severely deaf son who attends the school. At the late age of 2 years he was diagnosed profoundly deaf. He was even too deaf for hearing aids. We took the decision to give him bilateral cochlear implants. A cochlear implant is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound to a person who cannot hear. He still is profoundly deaf but now can access hearing with the device on. Unable to talk or even say his huge name "Willoughby" we fought to get him into Mary Hare Deaf School. As it is a charity school local boroughs will fund but a few and the rest is charity fund raising.

Three years on Willoughby is thriving, talking so clearly and so confident. Mary Hare School has been a life saver for him and has set him up to face the future and achieve his dream. For  those of you who know him you would never know this child is stone deaf without his aids!

So a team of us The Ridge House Mudders will be running, skidding, jumping over the Tough Mudder obstacles to raise some funds for such a fantastic charity. "
