LITTLE ST MARY’S CHURCH is an attractive mediaeval building beside Peterhouse in the centre of Cambridge. The original 19 century parish room was proving inadequate for this lively parish and the outreach projects with which it is involved. In 2010 it embarked on an exciting project to reorder the old building and its facilities, adding an imaginative extension to create a new Parish Centre with a large and flexible social and meeting area. This was designed to enhance the local environment, to benefit the local community, to provide a focus for the well-loved wild garden and to enable the church to expand its life and work. The new centre opened in June 2011. THE PARISH CENTRE DEVELOPMENT FUND was set up to raise the necessary £375,000 and due to the generosity of many people we have only £22,000 left to raise. Your support to help me to reduce this amount by £2,000 will be much appreciated. It will be an additional help if you can gift aid your donation if at all possible as that will more than cover the expenses of this page.
The seed for wanting to walk the Camino de Santiago de Compostella was sown in 1962 when I was working in Bethnal Green and attended the church of St. James the Greater on Bethnal Green Road. Now 50 years later, as a septuagenarian with creaky knees, this ambition has been reawakened by friends and acquaintances who have achieved their Compostella (i.e. walking at least the last 100km) in recent years. It seemed that I should wait no longer and I feel it is appropriate to do it for the benefit of the two charities with which I am involved, the other being the Mothers' Union. It is a privilege in my contribution to the life of Little St. Mary's not only to help to preserve such a historic building but to provide such a facility for future generations.
