Story
Will you help 3-year-old Lucky Lacey?
Here at Wood Green we see lots of brave animals that have been through horrific situations and Lacey is no exception.
Lacey was brought to our Godmanchester Centre in terrible pain after most probably being hit by a car. This poor young cat has suddenly found herself without a home and in need of urgent lifesaving medical care.
When she arrived in our care, Lacey was unable to move around or use one of her hind legs at all. After a thorough medical examination and X-rays by veterinary staff, it was revealed that she has a serious break to her pelvis, along with a smashed hip joint on the right side.
We ensured there was no damage to her nerves and that she could go to the toilet and now we need to refer her for surgery at Cambridge Vet School.
The surgeons there hope to stabilise her fracture and perform surgery on her hip joint to make her more comfortable and give her back a functional leg.
And that is just the start of it for Lacey.
She will need ongoing aftercare including cage rest and gentle therapeutic movement to get her walking properly again. Lacey will have a large amount of medical treatment administered every day including pain relief and antibiotics to help her fight infection.
Throughout her recovery she will need round the clock care from our veterinary team both during the day and overnight. Quite an ordeal for any animal to go through.
Whilst we do have funding for major operations, our resources are very limited. The total cost of Lacey’s operation and aftercare is going to be around £3,500. To ensure the future of Lacey and others like her, we urgently need donations from our supporters to help us fund the operation.
If we reach our fundraising target, any additional funds will be used towards the treatment and care of other animals like Lacey.
Thank you for your continued support.
