Would you like to help raise money for Autism?
Katie Nicholson and Lynsey McAdam are 'attempting' to run the Great North Run this year for the North East Autism Society.
If you want to know why, please read Lynsey’s story:-
Autism is a condition that affects many people in the UK including myself (Lynsey) I have a little boy on the autism spectrum and would love to raise not only money for the charity but also awareness for the condition.
Too often people with autism are misunderstood, as no two people are affected in the same way, and because people who have autism look just like me or you there isn’t always an obvious sign of a problem.
Often some of the behaviours associated with autism can single the adults out as ‘weird’ and the children as ‘naughty’ when actually its more a case of them just trying to cope with the world around them, which can be overwhelming, stressful and upsetting for all concerned and when you factor in the stares and often ignorant comments of people around you it can make leaving the house a difficult thing to do, leaving people isolated and lonely.
If we can raise even a little awareness for this condition and make it so some people think twice about judging someone who is acting a little differently or melting down in public, then we’ll have made a difference to a lot of people including my son Oscar.
