Story

Since 2008 Frances and Maaike, two UK midwives, have been visiting Mongolia and now Burma to help midwives and traditional birth attendants update their practice to make birth as safe as possible for Mothers and Babies in their care. We are delivering up to date and evidence based knowledge in these areas, sharing birth stories with the midwives and TBAs, as well as giving them basic equipment to assist them in their work.

Thanks so much for supporting our continued work in helping to improve health outcomes for Mongolian and Burmese families.

All your donations will help us get to some of the most remote parts of our planet and give vital education and simple equipment such as infant resuscitation kits, stethoscopes, umbilical cord ties. Our most recent visit to Burma cost around £4,000 and we trained 40 midwives and birth attendants for a 5 day initial course. We plan to continue working with this group later in the year and rolling out the basic course to a new group of midwives and TBAs, as well as continuing our work in Mongolia in order to update trainers that we trained and support them in rolling out education.

Please remember to giftaid if you are eligible. Thanks!

BirthLink supports maternal and neonatal healthcare in disadvantaged countries, where maternal and newborn care is severely compromised by lack of education and basic resources. Through workshops, seminars and 'hands-on' skills training, based on low-tech care, our aim is to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.
