Story
So to celebrate completing my first half marathon, I have decided to push the boat out and run a proper marathon. In the United States no less.
(Not so) Encouraging quotes so far have been
- 'Come back when you run a proper marathon' (R. Prendergast. Challenge setter)
- 'You run over a mile? Ha' (big bro Dan McColgan)
- 'Marathon? You? Seriously? You need to give up the fags and booze for that' (Mike Turner)
- 'I can think of better things to do with my spare time' (various sources)
But thanks to the inspiration of 2 total running fanatics and all round great people (Danni and Alex), I have kept going and I am pleased to say it has turned into something I love.
On 14th March 2015 I shall be taking in the sites of Washington DC and pretending to be in the West Wing whilst running a whopping 26 miles. I will get to run along famous routes such as the National Mall and the Capital Building. If my legs recover enough afterward I may even get some sightseeing in.
What am I doing this for? Everton in The Community. A fantastic charity that looks after so many different aspect of supporting a variety of people from all walks of life including veterans, children, pensioners, workplace health awareness and disabilities. It really is a great set-up and they deserve every penny they get.
Please note, I'm paying for all of this trip myself so any donations will not be going towards me going on a holiday - 100% of the donations will go directly to EITC - but if anyone wants to buy me a celebratory beer I am totally on board with that.
