Recently, my Uncle (and Godfather), Bobby, was diagnosed with Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia (WM) which is a rare type of slow growing non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It develops when a type of white blood cells, called plasma cells, become abnormal and grow out of control.
This diagnosis shocked and saddened all of our family and friends. Uncle Bob is such an inspiration to myself and many people that know him, alongside being one of the kindest most caring men I know!
After finding out the diagnosis we felt helpless, but knew we must do something in order to help. It has been Uncle Bobs determination, positive attitude and 'Bring it On' outlook which has led myself, my dad and Liam to fundraise for WMUK.
After much thought we have decided to run The Great South Run 10 miles and for anyone that knows me, knows I am not a runner! Our aim is to ensure that people know what Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia is, and to raise money for their charity to contribute to the research and support they give to all patients and families across the country!
