Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This started for in January when my loving son (Liam) showed me a recent picture and said look dad all your chins are smiling! (I don't know where he gets his tact and diplomacy skills from?) That got me to do something about it. I set about going out walking and exercising. 6 months and 500 miles later, it is now time to put that effort to something positive.
So to support "Sam's Gift" I have agreed to walk home from Work.
Before you say" Cheeky sod"and exit the page, let me explain that I work in the Centre of Leeds but live in Bury. So the walk home will be between 50 - 55 miles (depending on the final route and forced detours) and take 2 days!
Up until January the furthest I had walked for over 10 years was to the fridge and back and this will be a very testing challenge but for a very worthwhile cause.
Cancer is a cruel illness for anyone but when it strikes a young person its even more heartbreaking. Sams gift is a charity set up in memory of Sam Nicholls by his family to support Children and Young adults fighting Cancer. Their response to losing Sam to Cancer has been inspiring and the effort and commitment they are putting into this charity is a credit to Sam and themselves.
Most importantly, If you are able to support this with a donation it will be very gratefully received.
About Sam's gift
Cancer is difficult at any age, but as a teenager or young adult you understand what may happen and know what life should hold ahead.
The positivity that Sam showed throughout treatment is something that we want to encourage in others.
In Sam's memory, we have created Sam's Gift - a 'Journey Box' where hopes, fears and wishes can be expressed.
We want to help young cancer patients through the difficult times which may lie ahead of them. Sam's Gift aims to give something positive, at a time when it is most needed.
Initially, the boxes will be sent to teenagers and young adults, currently battling cancer at The Christie Hospital, where Sam underwent his treatment.
