Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decided to do the 2016 Ironman because I can.
I broke my back in a climbing accident in 1993 and after many years of constant agony and pain I was healed after somebody prayed for me. If it had not happened to me I would find it almost impossible to believe that such a transformation could happen overnight.
I went from taking far too many Tramadol painkiller tablets, wearing a tens machine, having spinal steroid injections and being unable to chase after my young children to almost no pain at all - within 24hrs. Why God healed me I have no idea - but I know that he did and have been incredibly blessed through this.
Every time I go for a run or finish a ride I remember the times when I could not do anything at all - and thank Him for this.
Completing an Ironman is the ultimate way of showing how completely healed I am and in my own way praising what He has done for me.
Whilst I am doing this challenge I also want to help others in their recovery from life changing events, through raising money for Dans Fund for Burns.
My friend Polly married Dan in the summer of 2002 - a wonderful and happy occasion. A few weeks later I turned on the news to see film of the devastation in Bali and later that day I got a phone call from Polly's brother saying she had gone there at the last minute to meet up with friends. We learned over the coming days that one of my best friends - Annika, Polly's new Husband Dan and many of their friends had been killed and Polly was fighting for her life in Australia with terrible burns.
Polly has rebuilt her life over the last 14 years and is now remarried and mother to two lovely children. She set up Dans Fund for Burns after experiencing the challenges facing burns victims within the UK and spends the money raised making a real difference to peoples lives as they recover and try to rebuild their lives - something Polly herself has done on the most amazing way.
Dans Fund for Burns is a small charity that makes a real difference - all the money raised goes to helping people and I know that Polly ensures not a penny is wasted.
