Story
As we set up our home together, we'd love to support those who don't have a home of their own. Before you get carried away with our alternative John Lewis gift list, please consider making a donation to Exeter YMCA on our behalf:
- £7 could cover the average cost of a Job Club travel bursary; paying for a homeless person to get to their job interview via public transport.
- £20 could cover the cost of an Exeter YMCA resident’s weekly one-to-one support session: helping a young person to address issues such as budgeting; employment and education; social networks; personal identity; looking after myself; alcohol and drugs; physical and sexual health; mental and emotional health; managing disabilities; respecting others; maintaining accommodation and anything else which the young person may want to discuss.
- £50 could cover the cost of two hours of counselling for a young resident wishing to work through some deeper emotional issues.
- £75 could cover the cost of running a ‘Cooking on a Budget’ course. The course teaches our young residents (who often have no cooking skills!) how to cook and eat healthily and on a tight budget. £75 covers tutor time and the cost of food for each session.
- £100 could cover the cost of re-equipping a bedroom when a resident moves out to prepare it for the next young person. This includes purchasing new cooking equipment, bedding, light painting and decorating etc.
