Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In October 2011 I ran my first (and only) marathon in Chester. I say "ran" but use the term loosely as I wasn't the most dedicated of novices when training. In fact I ran about 11 miles before walking the rest, to set a PB of ooh, let's just say there was a pigeon and a bloke sweeping the steps of the stand as I crossed the finish line . As one my sponsors kindly pointed out, I would probably have done it quicker if I'd walked all of it. I was just pleased to have finished. Despite the immense sense of achievement, I swore (volubly) I would never do another.
I have never been a keen runner. I firmly believe it's something you're supposed to do when chasing a ball. However, time heals all wounds. 4 years later I received an invitation to do the Stockholm Marathon from my old friend Julian Harris. After more swearing, I decided to give it a go. He's aiming for a sub 4 hours 30 time. I'm aiming to see a crowd larger than a Swedish pigeon and a man with a broom when I finish.
I'm 48 this year and about 1.5 stone over optimum marathon running weight. This is not going to be easy!
I know that charity fatigue is as acute and widespread as my own when training (yes, I'm doing some this time) but if you were able to donate any sum I would be very grateful and I know that Headway Somerset appreciate everything that sponsors can give. If you're interested, I'll occasionally tweet photos of my training progress (ideas as to how to make it less tedious welcome!) from my @counselsclerk account.
