Story
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
The Good
The Halow Project is dedicated to creating opportunities and supporting young people with a learning disability so that they are able to live independent, meaningful, fulfilled lives and become integrated into their local community. Find out more at www.hallowproject.org.uk
The Bad:
It costs lots of money to fund the really important work that the Hallow Project does. So we're asking for your money! In return we're cycling 250 miles over 48 hours in two countries on the 'Two Boats Cycle'. We're going from Putney, Newhaven, getting the boat to France and travelling from Dieppe to Caen, then back across on another boat to Portsmouth and back to the Hallow Project's headquarters in Guilford.
The Ugly
They're the three blokes in this picture. Not so much the Three Tenors as the Three Ha'penny Pieces. They think it'll be like the Tour de France! The truth is they'll be in worse shape than the boys who landed on D-Day when they get there, they'll probably get yellow pants before the Yellow Jersey, and they're more like the wee fella in the Hovis advert than Lance Armstrong.
Edwin McGinn: a veteran of charity cycles, Edwin completed his first one on a Penny Farthing bicycle. He first moved to London during the war and got a job washing carrier pigeons, before becoming an electrician. His nickname 'Ironpants' will be sorely tested after 48 hours on a bicycle seat.
Jamie Foley: his first charity bike ride, if you don't count the money he stole from old ladies to buy Guinness when cycling to primary school. A Corkman by trade, Jamie insists there is no truth in the rumour he will need stabilisers.
Tosh: a bicycle expert, Tosh ran away and joined the circus aged 53, where he was a unicylcist and looked after the bearded lady. The experience he learned from working with a bunch of clowns meant he went on to have a long career in the Garda. Tosh insists he won't need to pay import duty on the mobility scooter he is taking with him to France.
But Edwin, Jamie and Tosh are asking for your support. They're training hard for a mammoth cycle to try and raise much-needed funds for a really worthwhile cause. Please give what you can to help them reach their fundraising goal.
