Story
My wonderful wife Sue was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer in February 2015, after two sessions of chemotherapy and numerous nights in hospital for pneumonia and infection problems she was admitted to Wirral St John's Hospice on Wednesday 17th June 2015. On the day that she was taken into the care of the Hospice I was informed that unfortunately Sue's condition had deteriorated rapidly and she had only hours to live.
However she fought on and after six days of care from the Hospice staff Sue passed away on the morning of Monday 22nd June surrounded by myself and her loving family and friends.
Without the specialist care and compassion given, not only to Sue, but also to myself, Sue's sister Debbie and our children, this whole experience would have been absolutely unbearable. I cannot thank them enough for everything that they did for Sue and us during those six days, and of the after care coming to terms with the loss of Sue.
As a way of showing my gratitude for all of the care and support that has been given to us I am going to join other cyclists who also have their own reasons for taking part for the Hospice, in cycling from London to Paris this July. This will be a memorable experience and one which will be very emotional, not only for myself but for one of my co- cyclists Bruce Archer, whose wife Amanda sadly passed away 5 weeks before Sue. Amanda was also cared for at the hospice by the same staff and nurses.
Sue and Amanda used to work together 30 years ago at Littlewood's Pools. Our families are both from the Eastham and Bromborough area, and our children are of similar ages. Myself and Bruce share a lot of the same friends and the loss of Amanda and Sue has devastated all that knew them.
Any contribution will be greatly appreciated for such a worthy cause.
