Story

We have now conpleted our challenge and are recovering. A running news from the epic journey is available to view at www.monkeybike2012.co.uk We will also add a detailed report with pictures on a new page sometime in the near future. Thank you again if you ahve donated and supported us on the way.

On the 23rd June 2012 I will be riding a Monkeybike form John O'Groats to Lands End. I am doing this along with a support team to raise money for Monkey World in Dorset through the Jim Cronin Memorial Fund. To coincide with the park's 25th Anniversary we will aim to complete the 900 mile journey inside 25 hours!! The bike is only 110cc and tops out at 45mph. It has a 9 litre fuel tank so completing the challenge inside the time will require me riding non-stop, apart from fuel stops, from one end of the country to the other. So far too many people have told me that this is impossible which only makes me more determined to complete it.

Monkey World is a 65 acre park in the heart of the Dorset countryside and is home to over 240 rescued and endangered primates of 17 different species. Many have been neglected or experiences unbelievable cruelty and some are now part of international breeding programmes for endangered species. Here they can all enjoy the company of their own kind in a safe, natural environment. Daily keeper’s talks provide fascinating information about the stars of TV’s ‘Monkey Life’ and the Great Ape Play Area, the largest in the South, is the perfect place for kids to monkey around in.

Monkey World was set up in 1987 by Jim Cronin to provide a permanent, stable home for abused Spanish beach chimpanzees. Today his wife, Dr Alison Cronin, continues to work with foreign governments worldwide to stop the illegal smuggling of primates from the wild.
