Story
Why am I walking from Oxford to London?
2016 is a tenth anniversary year - in 2006 I donated a kidney to a friend and the operation and subsequent aftercare were at Guy's Hospital. This fundraiser for the Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospital Kidney Patients' Association (GSTTKPA) is a way of again giving thanks - thanks to the staff who were so kind and professional and thanks for the quality of the anaesthetic used.
So, starting just west of Oxford, I will follow for 120 miles and five days the Thames Path through Oxford, Abingdon, Sonning, Henley, Windsor, Hampton Court, Barnes and Putney to finish on the 11th September at Guy's Hospital. I have obviously been training, honing and toning my now rather lighter body; checking out diets, energy drinks, energy bars; and, apart from ice baths after particularly long training walks, doing what I can to make the task as free from discomfort as possible - but it will not be a cakewalk.
To ease my pain, I would be most grateful if you could donate to the GSTTKPA.
GSTTKPA helps patients by supporting research activities at Guy's; by funding patient amenities, such as TVs, in clinics and dialysis units; by supporting Ronald McDonald House which provides accommodation for families of sick children; and by funding social events in the dialysis units and activities such as The Transplant Games.
All donations made will be much appreciated by me and, more importantly, by the charity.
Thank you.
