Story
For the last 5 years we have been raising money for the British Heart Foundation and to date have managed to raise a fabulous amount of over £4,000.
We have decided to turn our attention this year to a different Charity called The West of England MS Therapy Centre. Why? Well two reasons really;
Our Uncle Pete was diagnosed with MS around 7 years ago. For those of you who have not been in contact with someone with MS it really can take all forms, some people don’t show signs for years whilst the physical affects for others can be quite alarming. Pete is now wheelchair bound, he has a great flat in Surbiton and is well looked after and for someone who used to be very active maintains an incredibly positive outlook.
The other person in the Ranger family is Liz, Ian’s wife. Liz was diagnosed with MS after their son, Sabin, was born 3 years ago. Liz is definitely a fighter and despite significant challenges is determined not to let MS affect family life.
So two pretty good reasons to raise some money, in this instance for the West of England Therapy Centre . They have a fab website that explains who they are and what they do but in a sentence they offer support and therapy such as Hyperbaric Pressure Chamber treatment and Physiotherapy to MS sufferers throughout the South West. They are 100% self-funded and need significant financial help each year to keep the centre open. Take a look at their website for more info http://www.mstherapybristol.org.uk/msbristol/center_information.html
So what is the plan of attack? There are currently four of us, Dave Cottee, Neil Turner, Ian and Matthew Ranger who will attempt the cycle ride from Lowestoft which is the furthest Easterly point in England to Bristol. The total distance for this is around 230 miles, not that far really ;-), but we are planning to attempt to cycle this in 24 hours!
We need your help to raise some cash! Without you it is going to be pointless. I really would prefer to not cycle all that way for £50 :-)
So come on forget the recession, help us raise as much as possible.
There will be regular updates on the lead up to the day and on the day itself, follow it on twitter @thehairycyclers
Thanks for reading and hopefully donating!
