Story
Three special girls bring us together...Abbie, Elsie and Grace.
They were all diagnosed with the same DEADLY DIPG brain tumour. DIPG brain tumours are INOPERABLE. Chemotherapy is INEFFECTIVE, radiotherapy can provide palliative care.
Life expectancy is 9-12 months. Survival 0% . Sadly each of our girls has lost their battle. Help us find a cure for Children's DIPG brain cancer.
Welcome to the Abbie's Army M.A.D (Mums Against DIPG) Lakes Challenge!! We are a team of 20 women with 3 mum's amongst us who all overlapped in treatment at the Royal Marsden hospital in 2011, when our girls were diagnosed with the same terminal DIPG brain tumour.
During our DIPG journeys we have all learned the shortcomings of research in this area, the relative considered rarity of the condition which has been a hindrance and the lack of funding...and yet every 9 days in the UK a family will receive this diagnosis for their child.
They will hear that there is NO cure and NO hope...
From our loss comes HOPE and INSPIRATION and in honour of our Angels on the 25th-26th May 2013 our amazing team will take part in an incredible 24hr challenge!!
We will canoe 33km, cycle 21kms and climb and abseil 17kms...including Scafell and Scafell Pike! This is virtually a South to North complete crossing of the Lake District...all to be done in 24hrs.
Please help us raise vital funds that will enable us to contribute specifically to funding a research project for this dreadful illness...a 3 year research post costs around £180,000 !! What fitting tribute if we can save just one family some of the pain that this diagnosis brings in memory of our special Angels.
Sleep tight girls and THANK YOU
