Story
Many of you know that I have grown a lip warmer over the last year and that I intend to participate in this year’s World Beard and Moustache Championship (http://www.worldbeardchampionships.com/) in Germany on 2 November. It has not been without challenges (particularly soup) and the support of my dear family, friends and colleagues have been key to maintaining my moustachioed mission.
Now, in a twist to Movember, I call on one and all to contribute to my sponsored shave on 4 November for a remarkable charity called Supporting Dalit Children (http://www.supportingdalitchildren.com/). I invite you to forward the link to this page to any person you think will be amused by the moustache and who may be inclined to donate.
The objective of the charity is to educate the so called ‘untouchable’ Dalit children of India. Despite representing one fifth of the population of India (~250 million) the Dalits do not have any status. If their shadow touches a caste member, local custom dictates that the offended party must conduct a cleansing process. Dalits must not drink from public wells without permission for fear that their perspiration will pollute the source.
By making a contribution you will provide some of the most downtrodden children with a chance to learn and so avoid a tragic future (one example being cleaning latrines by hand). The charity is run by volunteers so every penny donated goes directly to the education process. No donation is too big or small.
Please help.
Mike
