Story
In 2011 I went to Ngora in Uganda and I met some faces behind the statistics of poverty. Edith's Home is sponsoring children through school, providing vocational training to orphans who have been forced to drop out from school and it is supporting child headed families.
A child headed family is a family in which both parents have died (normally from AIDS), leaving a child as the oldest member and sole income provider. Children in child-headed families suffer extraordinary levels of depravation. They are bereaved, very poor, hungry, lacking in education, lacking in opportunities and vulnerable to all kinds of child exploitation.
Edith’s Home’s social workers mentor and support the families with grants, food and medical care with the short term aim of improving conditions and the long term aim of lifting them out of poverty. Currently Edith’s Home supports 75 child headed families, but there are many more that could be helped with your support. If you'd like to read more about Edith's Home click here.
Because their amazing work can reach more people with more money, I'm not going to wear shoes through November 2013. I'd appreciate everything you can spare, please donate!
Thanks so much,
Alex
