We help orphans to have an education to equip them to lead self-sustaining lives

Story

This past summer, I went to Ngora in Uganda and I saw some extreme poverty throughout the area. With many children having been orphaned often due to HIV/AIDS. I also saw the incredible work that Edith's Home is doing there through educational advocacy and emotional support. That is why I am doing No Shoes November i.e. not wearing any shoes or socks in November, to raise money and awareness for this awesome charity!

There are three main projects to the the Edith's Home work. They run a sponsoring scheme which gives orphans financial and emotional support through secondary and further education. The orphans there see themselves as worthless due to the society and culture there but by being sponsored, they said that it gives them value and self-worth knowing that there are people in the UK who love and care for them.

They also run a vocational school to train orphans in skills for jobs such as bricklaying, carpentry and tailoring.

There are many child headed families throughout Uganda where the parents of the family and all other wider relatives have died (usually from HIV/AIDS) and the eldest child has to look after and provide for their entire family. I visited some of the families over the summer and was astounded to see a 14 year old girl who had to provide for her family of 5 brothers and sisters! They are incredibly poor, lacking in food, education and opportunities whilst being vulnerable to all kinds of exploitation.

Edith's Home work with 3 social workers who are amazing and support 75 families with grants, food, medical care and general support.

Edith's Home are doing so much good work yet there are so many more people in need out there who they can only reach with more financial support. Your money will be gratefully recieved and will go so far to help the orphans in Uganda.

Thank you so much

Andy
