Story

During June, Lisa and Rob will be taking part in a volunteering exercise in the townships of Cape Town, South Africa. During our two week stay, we will be assisting with the following projects:

ABC for Life

Immizamo Yethu

Community based organisation focused on improving the educational standards of youth. Also delivers football based programmes for boys and girls.

Bread of Life

Langa

Community faith based organisation focused on the empowerment of young women and girls. Addressing issues such as Gender Based Violence, Sexual Health, Developing Life Skills & leadership. Using football as a means of bringing girls together in a safe environment.

Mighty Superstars

Lwandle

Women lead community based organisation focused on the empowerment of young women and girls. Addressing issues such as Gender Based Violence, Sexual Health, Developing Life Skills & leadership. Using football as a means of bringing girls together in a safe environment.

Isiqalo Foundation

Masiphumelele

Community based organisation using sport (surfing and football) to engage youth (boys and girls) and to develop life skills. A particular emphasis on HIV Prevention and Gender Equity.

Oasis

Grassy Park

Community based organisation that works with homeless youth and organises the South African team for the Homeless World Cup. The organisation provides opportunities for work experience and skill development to young homeless people who have shown commitment through the Homeless World Cup and deploys community coaches to work in local schools providing sports activity and life skills coaching.

Making an Impact through Sport

Mitchells Plain

Community based organisation working in partnership with local schools to provide school and after school sports opportunities for young people. Addressing local problems of substance abuse, violence, crime and gangs.

Amandla Edufootball

Khayelitshia

International organisation running a safe space and sports based programmes in Site B, Khayelitshia. Main emphasis is on violence and crime prevention and youth and adult leadership training programmes. Also lead a football league programme for 35 childrens homes and shelters.

Marsh Memorial Childrens Home

Rondebosch

Residential centre for orphans and vulnerable children providing care and educational support to children. Part of the Amandla Edufootball League.

Orion Organisation

Atlantis

Organisation providing for people with disabilities. Activities include residential and day care, education, work opportunities and social activities including a sports programme.

We desperately need to raise our target figure of £5,000 in order to help train, coach and build work placements for individuals from the local projects.
