Story
Oliver was born with congenital heart disease and Downs Syndrome. We had been looking for a while to find 'THE charity' to help support, and although this was not the ideal way of finding it , I now have two great causes I can support! -
- Evelina Childrens Hospital, to whom we quite literally owe Oliver's life. The brilliant surgeons and nurses bought him through a life saving op - just!
- The Downs Syndrome Association - who provide ongoing support and education to help gorgeous boys and girls like Oliver learn the skills they need and to be accepted into the community as a matter of course.
One in a thousand babies are born with Down’s syndrome – that is two babies born everyday in the UK. Down’s syndrome is the most common cause of severe learning disability in the UK, affecting 60,000 people. It is a genetic condition - it occurs by chance and any mother can have a baby with Down’s syndrome.
With the right support, people with Down’s syndrome can live healthy lives, attend the school of their choice, get a job and live in their own accommodation. The DSA invests around £1.5 million every year towards supporting people with Down’s syndrome to live full and rewarding lives.
A £10 donation would pay for a weeks Speech and Language Therapy or Physiotherapy for a child with Down's Syndrome. One of the greatest barriers for children with Down's Syndrome is socialising and interacting due to difficulty with Speech and Language.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Down's Syndrome Association gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please help Oliver and all the other kids with DS now!
Thank you x
