Story
The Oor Wullie Bucket Trail is a huge public art event running from 27
June to 27 August. Imagine fifty five 5ft tall sculptures of Oor Wullie
sitting on his bucket, all individually sponsored and decorated by
artists/designers to be located around the city for the public to view,
share and adore. More information can be found here: http://www.oorwulliebuckettrail.com/
Elaine Omand, Elspeth Luke & Ali Wyllie from 'Run the Sights' running tours, have organised group runs taking in some of the sculptures and £5 from each runner is going to The Archie Foundation Tayside. It seems like the obvious thing to do to try to run around all 55 in one go as a final challenge. More information on Run the Sights can be found here: http://runthesights.co.uk/blog/
In Aberdeen, having completed an epic ultra-run covering more than 30 miles during Summer 2014, to take in all 50 of the Dolphin Sculptures around the city, David Scott and Gareth Cordiner along with Lorraine McCoig were keen to recapture the feeling by completing a similar challenge in Dundee.
Not scared of a big running challenge and after a lot of route planning and organisation a date has been set and the challenge laid down! The distance covered will be approximately 44-48km (27-30 miles) around Dundee.
The run will take place on Monday 22nd August, starting at Oor Wullie Number 1 'Oor Golfer' at Carnoustie Golf Course and taking in all 55 to finish at Oor Wullie Number 28 'Woodland Wullie' at Camperdown Wildlife Park.
If you would like to sponsor us to attempt this very long run and to support the Tayside Children's Hospital appeal for a new Children's Theatre Suite, we would really appreciate it.
Thank you!
Elaine, Elspeth, Ali, David, Gareth and Lorraine
